Longleaf Stories

full circle in the hundred acre wood

This is Amanda Blackvelvet, our first pup, at three months.Buck and I were newly married in this photo. I am sitting on ground near the spot where we would build our first home together. It is in a tiny community north of Pensacola, called Cottage Hill. We dug out two small ponds on the property. I fed the fish that lived in the pond closest to the house. Buck likes to say we couldn’t catch and eat any of them because I had turned them into pets. It’s true. I even named them. They were all called “Herman,” and would swim to meet me when they could feel the vibration of my footsteps walking from house to pond. It wasn’t love. It was day-old bread.

Speak. Leave a memory.
