Pensacola’s annual Christmas parade was in full sway. The streets were jammed with party folk of all ages. Floats passed by right in front of the restaurant. Costumed characters threw beads and candy to screaming kids. A gaudy, raucous, music-filled parade was just the medicine this year, following closely on Hurricane Ivan’s destruction barely two months before. This was a happy, if slightly hysterical, crowd.
