He has found the pool.

When Buck walks Maggie each night before lights out, the bullfrog is in the deep end of the pool. Buck “rescued” him several nights running, but each time, he returned the next evening. By morning, he is gone.

He is a big frog in a small, ozonated, slightly chlorinated pond.
