Early morning is prime Pensacola, Florida time to visit Joe Patti’s Seafood on the waterfront and Bailey’s Farmer’s Market. We swung by Patti’s first thing to pick up some cooked lobster, a pint of select oysters, and a quart of the Azalea Gumbo Shoppe Seafood Gumbo. Then we headed on over to Bailey’s for some fresh okra pods, yellow crookneck squash, sweet potatoes, peaches, nectarines, strawberries, a bodacious bundle of new crop collard greens, and a sack of fresh shelled speckled butter beans.
We stopped by the Albertsons grocery on the way home for some end of the season blueberries — no more 2 for $3 — and a crisp european style cucumber.
Supper tonight was a plate of cold lobster, cucumber slices, sweet red peppers and a Louis dressing for dipping.
Second course was some of that Azalea Gumbo Shoppe seafood gumbo. It’s a frozen product, made for years by a company in nearby Theodore, Alabama.
When aided and abetted by fresh sliced okra and a pint of fresh oysters, gently poached in the gumbo roux, what can I say? Se les bon temps roulez.
