LONGLEAF STORIES

full circle in the hundred acre wood

Grilled Salmon and Spinach Avocado Orange Salad

Buck and I sat at the conference table in the room we call the Snow Porch, no television, a small fire going on this chilly panhandle Florida December evening, and conversation flowing that belied our 25 plus years of talking together.

Maggie sat expectantly on her mat nearby, paws crossed in what we call her “finishing school” pose. She is a precise tea leaf reader and knew, for sure, that a hefty chunk of salmon from Buck’s plate and also one from mine, would be hers shortly.

It is said that hope is not a strategy, but Maggie is stretched out full length at my feet as I type, belly full of salmon.

    Looks yummy!
I’m glad the dog thought so too.
I made a pseudo-fancy Italian sausage, chicken, and polenta dish last night. The polenta was a big hit with old and young. The chicken a hit only with the old.
